Plagiarism Policy

Plagiarism and Retraction Policy

The Editorial Board of the Sriwijaya Journal of Community Empowerment is committed to upholding high standards of integrity and originality in all submitted work. Plagiarism is strictly prohibited, and the journal has established the following policy to address instances of detected plagiarism or excessive similarities with previously published materials.

The Sriwijaya Journal of Community Empowerment uses Turnitin, Google-based search engines, journal databases, and other online tools to check for plagiarism. Based on the similarity index and originality, the Managing Editor may decide to reject the manuscript outright, request clarifications from the authors, or proceed with the peer-review process. Submitted papers must not exceed a similarity index of 25%. If the similarity exceeds this threshold, the manuscript will be returned to the author for revision and resubmission.

Policy Guidelines:

  1. Originality Requirement
Submitted papers must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration for publication elsewhere. Direct quotations must be clearly distinguished from the original content using (1) indentation, (2) quotation marks, and (3) proper citation of the source.

  2. Fair Use and Permissions
Any reproduced text beyond fair use (defined as more than two or three sentences) or graphic material must have the copyright holder’s permission, if feasible, from the original author(s), and must be properly attributed.

Actions Based on Plagiarism Level

The Editor-in-Chief will determine actions according to the extent of plagiarism, based on the following levels:

  • Minor Plagiarism
Description: A brief section of text is copied without significantly borrowing data or ideas.
Action: Authors are issued a warning and asked to revise the text with proper citation.

  • Intermediate Plagiarism
Description: A substantial part of the text is copied without adequate citation of the original source.
Action: The manuscript is rejected, and the authors are barred from submitting to the journal for one year.

  • Severe Plagiarism
Description: Significant copying of text, data, or ideas, including the reproduction of original research findings.
Action: The manuscript is rejected, and the authors are barred from submitting to the journal for five years.
