The International Relations Theory (IRT) course poses considerable challenges for first- and second-year students in the Department of International Relations, Universitas Sriwijaya. This community engagement initiative aimed to enhance students’ theoretical comprehension by implementing Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and role-play methods through simulated academic debates. The method involved student needs assessment, developing a structured debate module, and executing debates using real-world case studies. The program results significantly improved students’ theoretical understanding, as evidenced by post-test scores increasing from 36–46% to 56%. Students also demonstrated enhanced critical thinking, argumentation skills, and deeper theoretical insight. The activity effectively fostered an interactive and participatory learning environment, contributing to achieving targeted learning outcomes.
